Many plants contain FA, which plays a key role in the plants’ self-preservation mechanism, re-enforcing its cellular wall strength and protecting it from microbial damage as well as sun damage. As an antioxidant, FA will pair with molecules called free radicals. Left untouched, free radicals in the body look for molecules to bond with, often bonding with molecules in cell walls and damaging the cell in the process.
FA also acts as a synergistic with other antioxidants, especially vitamins C and E. When used with these vitamins, FA prevents them from breaking down or becoming ineffective.
