Acrylates Copolymer is a pre-neutralisable polymer thickener supplied as a white liquid dispersion.
It is designed to thicken when you raise the pH with a neutraliser, forming a smooth gel structure that improves viscosity, stability, and suspension.
This format is especially useful for clear gels and gel creams, alcohol free toners, and surfactant based cleansers where you want clean flow without the stringiness some natural gums can give.

FEATURES

  • Thickens on neutralisation – viscosity builds fast when pH is raised to the working range.
  • Clear gel potential – supports clearer systems than many natural thickeners.
  • Great suspension – helps keep particles and actives evenly distributed.
  • Clean sensory – smooth, modern gel feel with controlled slip.

BEST FOR

  • Clear gels
  • Gel creams
  • Toners
  • Micellar waters
  • Shower gels and cleansers
Formulator tip: Add the polymer first, mix until uniform, then neutralise slowly while watching viscosity. Stop once you hit your target thickness and pH.

FORMULATION GUIDELINES

INCI Acrylates Copolymer
Type Pre-neutralised polymer thickener (liquid dispersion)
Form White liquid
Solubility Water dispersible
Use Rate 4–10% as supplied (then neutralise to build viscosity)
Neutralisation Thickens after neutralisation. We recommend raising pH gradually using a suitable neutraliser (example: AMP, TEA, NaOH solution) until viscosity develops.
pH Working Range pH 6.0–7.5 for strong viscosity build and good clarity in most gel systems.
Temperature Tolerance Stable under normal processing. We recommend adding below 50°C and avoiding prolonged high heat.
Pro Tip Add Acrylates Copolymer into the water phase and mix until fully uniform before any neutraliser.
Neutralise slowly with stirring and allow the polymer to “catch up” between additions, because viscosity can rise suddenly.
If you overshoot pH, viscosity can drop, or the gel can feel harsh. Adjust carefully and avoid chasing pH up and down.
In surfactant systems, build your surfactant blend first, add the polymer, then neutralise near the end for best control.
Appearance White liquid dispersion (forms a clear to slightly hazy gel after neutralisation, depending on the system)
Stability Notes Electrolytes, high fragrance load, and some solvents can reduce viscosity. Test with your full surfactant blend and fragrance early.
Storage Keep sealed, cool, and dry. Protect from freezing and extreme heat.
